Velindre University NHS Trust appoints Vaughan Sound for digital signage installs

Velindre University NHS Trust - Digital Signage - Vaughan Sound

Velindre University NHS Trust has employed the services of Vaughan Sound to supply and install new digital signage systems at several locations across Wales, further to a public sector tender competition.

Based in Nantgarw, Cardiff, Velindre University NHS Trust specialises in cancer and blood services, care and associated research through its Velindre Cancer Centre and the Welsh Blood Service.

The project brief involved the provision of a ONELAN CMS Server (capable of controlling the content of up to 25 players), digital signage media players, mobile display trolleys and associated network cables to venues in Cardiff, Mold, Pontypool and Swansea.

This scheme to deliver improved information display at key Trust sites included fixed installs with displays mounted to walls and the media players concealed behind, as well as mobile stands with heavy duty, lockable castors to allow the client to easily move the screens between rooms.

For the mobile setups, Vaughan Sound built these within our in-house staging facility prior to delivery, significantly reducing the amount of time spent onsite at a period when access typically takes longer than usual due to COVID-secure measures being in place.

We specified 55” Sony commercial displays for each site, which include a full three-year warranty. The ONELAN media players benefit from a two-year manufacturer’s warranty as standard.

All walls to which the new signage displays were to be fitted were carefully inspected to confirm their suitability in supporting the net weight of the 55” screens. Following the mechanical inspection, the displays were mounted and set to an optimum viewing angle.

Media players, signal cables and network cables were discretely positioned behind the digital signage displays, while Vaughan Sound install engineers liaised with the client’s IT personnel to assign IP addresses and ensure correct network configuration.

Upon completion of the installations, witness testing and inspection was carried out safely, with certification issued to the onsite client representatives.

End user training was provided remotely, with participants confident in their ability to easily manage the creation of layouts and update of content via the intuitive CMS Server.

[The digital signage trainer] explained the system in an easy-to-follow format and took the time to listen to our requests and questions.” – Richard Evans, NHS Wales Informatics Service
