With over one hundred courses on offer and thousands of students enrolling each year, Coleg Gwent, which is divided into five campuses, is the largest further education college in Wales.
Situated near Newport, South Wales the learning institution – which features full conference facilities, meeting rooms and licensed areas – prides itself on delivering a high-standard of teaching, advice and support, ensuring students are given the best experience possible.
Appointed by electrical contractor NG Bailey, Vaughan Sound was invited to design, supply and install stage lighting, sound and audio-visual systems to the college’s Crosskeys Campus, which houses the sports hall, along with the drama, dance and music studios.
Vaughan Sound installed a full range of high-quality, industry-standard equipment to enhance the students’ experience, thus allowing them to become accustomed with the technology used in the entertainment business.
Infrastructure was provided throughout the drama studio, enabling set up and control from numerous positions.
This process included the installation of a cyclorama stage curtain, show relay, ring intercom and a professional lighting console with moving head control capability.
A multimedia projector was also fitted, enabling staff and students to present information via a retractable electric screen, controlled by an AMX touchpanel within the technician’s room.
Along with this, the team provided a cost-effective task lighting solution to the college’s drama studio.
To ensure light fittings could be controlled from a variety of key posts, a system from the Anytronics Anyscene range was selected, allowing staff to manipulate the task lighting in banks of four from both the lighting desk and several outstations.
In terms of audio, a full range, line array sound system from TOA was flown at a high level in the campus sports hall, complete with a portable mixer and amplifier to facilitate audio reinforcement for large-scale public meetings.
The dance and rehearsal rooms were furnished with a portable rack, holding audio amplifiers, a pitch-controlled CD player, a radio microphone receiver and an audio mixer.
An extensive selection of speakers were also pendant mounted to operate with the latest frequency channel 38-compatible radio microphone system.
Vaughan Sound efficiently and successfully provided Coleg Gwent with state-of-the-art systems, enabling students to use industry-standard equipment for dance, drama, musical productions and rehearsals.
“The project has run smoothly from start to finish and I can’t speak highly enough of your Project Manager and Installation Engineers.”
– Martin Wadey, Project Director (NG Bailey)
