Ysgol Pum Heol (Five Roads School) in Carmarthenshire has held a special ceremony to mark the official opening of its £4.5million new school.
The primary school (ages 4-11) serves up to 120 pupils, with an additional 30 nursery places onsite.
Ysgol Pum Heol was built under Carmarthenshire County Council’s Modernising Education Programme and also funded by Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools initiative.
It is situated on land adjacent to the former school building, which was demolished during phase two of the project to make way for a multi-use games area for use by the whole community.
Working alongside main contractor T Richard Jones (Betws) Ltd and electrical contractors Phase 3 Electrical Ltd, Vaughan Sound was appointed to provide a range of sound, lighting and audio-visual systems throughout the new build school.
The Main Hall now benefits from a performance sound and stage lighting system, comprising of an internally wired lighting bar suspended from the ceiling, along with RGBW LED fittings and a DMX lighting control desk.
Audio is delivered via a Yamaha mixer amplifier and four full range cabinet loudspeakers. The equipment rack also holds a CD/MP3/USB player, while a pair of handheld radio microphones were provided to further assist with performances in the space.
A 5000 lumen WXGA projector and 3.5 metre retractable electric screen have significantly enhanced assemblies and productions, with simple on/off and up/down control via a Kramer custom programmed, wall mounted unit.
Laptop/DVD connection panels, as well as a HDMI point and associated CAT6 cabling ensure staff can share content quickly and efficiently.
An audio feed from the projector to the audio rack also means sound is relayed directly to the loudspeakers, offering an immersive experience for all.
A zoned public address and class change system allows announcements and pre-programmed, timed tones through a number of recessed ceiling loudspeakers and wall mounted cabinet loudspeakers at key locations throughout the school.
Induction loops for the hard of hearing have been fitted in the Main Hall (linked to the sound system) and the Reception Desk (complete with boundary microphone), with an additional portable system providing flexibility of use throughout the building.
The classrooms at Ysgol Pum Heol have seen the installation of soundfield systems, ensuring teachers at the front of the room can be heard clearly at the back – vastly improving engagement and participation among pupils.
AV services were delivered here too, with Vaughan Sound also supplying and fitting the faceplates and cabling for the HDMI, VGA, audio and USB connections to the interactive whiteboards and projectors.
“We are thrilled to have a new, fit for purpose building, which will allow our successful school to flourish. The school is the heart of the village, and the pupils, governors, parents, staff, and community are very proud of the new school.”
— Rhian Francis (Acting Headteacher)
