Penyrheol Primary School in Swansea now boasts a stunning sensory room, thanks to the assistance and expertise of Vaughan Sound.
The school, which is based on Frampton Road in Gorseinon, entrusted Vaughan Sound to deliver a scheme to transform an uninspiring area into a calm, relaxing, and safe space for students.
Penyrheol Primary was successful in obtaining grant funding for the project. The aim was to utilise specialist sound and lighting equipment to create a dedicated chill/mood/sensory room.
Headteacher, Alison Williams contacted Vaughan Sound to provide an initial brief, inviting us to visit the school to survey the room and discuss the various possibilities.
Working to a strict budget and timeline, with the funding needing to be spent by a set deadline, Vaughan Sound developed a suitable proposal.
A five-channel amplifier, housed in an equipment rack with lockable door, has been paired with a multi-speaker array to deliver clear, crisp sound.
This sound system can take a multitude of music sources, such as a laptop or mobile phone, and also features Bluetooth connectivity.
Various lighting effects have been implemented, including DMX bubble tubes, plasma tubes, and fibre optic sensory light strings.
While some standalone, interactive elements operate by themselves, others such as a comprehensive batten lighting system have been specifically programmed.
Scenes can be recalled from a simple-to-use lighting control panel.
The sensory scheme has been completed with the inclusion of some non-electric, sensory liquid panels and tiles. These do not require any control or power but react to touch.
Vaughan Sound worked in collaboration with other trades to ensure the sound and lighting equipment is neatly arranged around new decorations and soft furnishings.
Staff at Penyrheol Primary School are delighted with the transformation of this room, which now offers an engaging, immersive, and protective space for any pupil that may need it.
