We’re absolutely thrilled with Vaughan Sound engineer, Dean Edwards, who has received an award from main contractor Bouygues UK for his work at Pencoedtre High School near Barry.

Occupying the site of the former all-girls Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School, a £34.7 million two-year phased scheme to develop new school buildings and outdoor sports facilities came to completion recently.

Part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Welsh Government’s joint-funded initiative under the 21st Century Schools Programme, this BIM Level 2 project saw the existing mixed-sex Pencoedtre High School remain open while construction of its replacement took place.

The 130,000 sq. ft new build will cater for up to 1,250 pupils aged 11-18 by 2026.

The three-storey, accessible, open plan main building features a large dining hall, impressive drama and performance spaces, first class sports hall, gym and fitness suites, and wide corridors.

Dean Edwards - Bouygues UK Supplier Award Presentation
Supply Chain Respect Award - Dean Edwards - Vaughan Sound

Dean was presented with Bouygues UK’s Supply Chain Respect Award after being nominated in the Passion category, which recognises individuals in their supply chain who go above and beyond in demonstrating Bouygues UK’s values.

Reason for nomination:

Dean is a valued member of the supply chain team. During the final stages of the project and during client occupation Vaughan Sound reacted proactively and quickly to last minute requests to enable the school to carry out presentations to their stakeholders.

This attitude was reflected throughout the whole project with his dedication, knowledge, and collaboration with other key trades during the Audio and Visual installation.

Congratulations Dean and thank you once again for leading by example with your commitment to Vaughan Sound’s high standards and onsite principles.

Vaughan Sound was responsible for specifying, supplying, and installing impressive performance sound and stage lighting systems to the Main Hall. An induction loop system for the hard of hearing and to meet DDA compliance is linked to the sound system.

A multimedia projector is fitted to one lighting bar using a bespoke mount, with a custom programmed controller located on the stage to easily operate the projector and 4m retractable electric screen.

Tailored facility panels were fitted to stage left/right and the control room – featuring microphone, audio tielines, DMX, Cat6e, video and ring intercom connectivity.

The Activity Studio, Drama Studio, and two Drama teaching rooms also benefit from industry standard performance sound and stage lighting systems, multimedia projection, blackout/stage curtains and track – providing students with modern technology throughout these fantastic learning environments.

Vaughan Sound has integrated audio systems and facility panels within the Recording Studio and Practice Rooms too, where students can expect to work with equipment that they would typically find in professional production spaces.

In the Dining Hall and Sports Hall, portable sound systems and a mobile presentation system – comprising an 86” commercial display on a heavy duty trolley stand – allow for flexibility and ease of use as and when required.

The project was completed with the provision of a diverse range of communal microphones, available for use throughout Pencoedtre High. These include boundary, handheld, instrument, lapel, and wired models along with boom stands, XLR leads, and flightcases for safe storage.
