Vaughan Sound was appointed to integrate an array of new audio-visual technology within Cardiff University’s School of Engineering.
The work was completed following a successful tender as part of the HEPCW inter-regional AV Products & Services framework.
Based on The Parade in the heart of the city and adjacent to another recent Vaughan Sound HE project, Cardiff & Vale College, the institution is one of the leading engineering schools in the UK.
It was ranked 1st in Civil Engineering and 7th in General Engineering in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014).
A total of five 65” commercial displays were installed, four of which are wall mounted and the other on a heavy duty articulating dual arm bracket for easy movement as required by teaching staff.
These have been combined with a 1080p visualiser and DVD player, alongside a host of Crestron control solutions.
Vaughan Sound installed an intuitive TSW-552 space-saving touchscreen. Featuring edge-to-edge glass and high-definition graphics as well as onboard voice recognition, web browsing and H.264 streaming video, it provides an ideal way of controlling all systems within the room.
Our team designed and implemented a custom GUI (graphical user interface), including client supplied logos and simple to follow buttons for all inputs and settings.
A contour nano desk style lectern with 14U rack space takes centre stage in the room, complete with corporate branding, control panel/visualiser housing, shelving and a monitor arm.
A key part of the project brief called upon our expertise and over half a century of experience in delivering sound systems in similar applications.
Audio reinforcement comes in the form of a four input mixer amplifier and eight recessed ceiling loudspeakers.
A gooseneck microphone with shock mount base and a wireless lap microphone system were also amongst the equipment provided.
“Vaughan Sound met our design brief perfectly. The installation was carried out on time and within our short deadline. The staff were professional and knowledgeable about the products being installed. Overall [we are] very happy with the service and would not hesitate in using [Vaughan Sound] again.” – Tim James (Team Manager – Technical Operations, Cardiff University)
